How to edit the release date after distribution
1 min read
Understand the difference between two types of release dates:
1. Historical release date
- Enter this when creating your release if it was previously distributed.
- Found on the release metadata page — not the distribution page where you select territories.
- Once you distribute, Hitskope updates this field automatically based on your future sale start date. If you pick ASAP, it sets the historical date to today.
- You cannot change this field directly. Two ways to change it:
- Redistribute the release with a new future start date. The historical date updates only if it hasn't passed yet.
- If the historical date has passed, contact support.
2. Future sale start date
- The date DSPs make your release public.
- Set this on the distribution page where you select territories.
- You can change this every time you redistribute — up to 2 days before the previous start date.
- Within 2 days of the previous start date: Deliver a takedown first. Once complete, redeliver with the new date.
- Example: Previous start date is January 10. Today is January 6. Safe to redeliver with a new date of January 20.
- If today is January 8, takedown first, then redeliver with January 20.
How to change the future sale start date
Redistribute the release. You'll enter a new start date on the distribution page.
If the release is still in delivery, pause it first: How to edit a Release that is still in delivery.
Steps:
- Go to Assets > Music.
- Click the asset you want to edit.

- Click the Distribute All button.
- Scroll to the "Release start date" field. Edit it there.
