Using your own ISRC root/prefix to generate your ISRCs

1 min read

Hitskope supports using your own ISRC root/prefix when distributing through your account. To activate this option, email support@hitskope.com and provide:

  1. Your ISRC prefix
  2. Whether you have a final ISRC limit (the highest ISRC you're authorized to issue under that prefix)

How it works — please read

ISRCs are not auto-generated from your prefix. Once your prefix is registered on your account, you must enter each track's full ISRC manually, per track, when you set up the release. Hitskope does not increment the suffix for you — every ISRC you assign to a track is one you've typed in and chosen yourself.

That means:

  • You — not Hitskope — are responsible for tracking which ISRCs you've already used inside Hitskope, outside Hitskope, or anywhere else under your prefix.
  • The order in which ISRCs appear on Hitskope releases will match the order in which you enter them, not the order in which the releases distribute.
  • If you also issue ISRCs outside Hitskope (other distributors, physical product, sync, archive), your internal log is the single source of truth — Hitskope can't see what you've assigned elsewhere.

WARNING — avoid duplicate ISRCs

Because every ISRC is entered manually:

  1. Keep a master log of every ISRC you've ever issued under your prefix — inside or outside Hitskope. Reuse one, and you create a duplicate that DSPs will reject or, worse, merge with the wrong recording.
  2. If you plan to issue ISRCs outside Hitskope, reserve a range for that purpose in your log before you start entering them on Hitskope releases.
  3. If you have a final ISRC limit (an end ISRC), monitor your usage and purchase additional ISRCs from your ISRC agent before you reach the cap.
